What Fishing Gear Do I Need?

Wether you are a tourist, a beginner, or long time big game sport fisherman, PEI tuna charters will provide all the gear that you will need to catch tuna from the fishing rod, tackle, bate, and any other equipment that is required for tuna fishing.

You don't have to bring anything on board with you, well except maybe a lunch and some water. Dress accordinly tho as you may be gone for hours at a time. Below are a few things we suggest that you allow for:

    • 6-8 hour day
    • A light lunch, snacks, beverages
    • Fishing gear, tackle, bait provided
    • Camera to take pics

Some tuna range upwards of 800-1100 pounds and take about 2-4 hours to land on average. The secret to landing the big one is to tire them out, while bringing them closer and closer to the boat. Once they ready the boat, David and his crew will gaff the tuna and make sure it lands on board the Tide & Time tuna boat for a weigh in.

For Tuna Charter Pricing information, please contact David Sansom at (902) 393-8690.

Charter pricing is group rated for 1 – 6 people and is more affordable if you bring a few friends to split the costs. The tuna fishing charter business in Prince Edward Island runs from July to mid October each year. Now would be the time to book your next PEI tuna fishing charter.

What To Expect Aboard A Tuna Charter Boat

There is actually no typical day when you go tuna fishing, so we'd like to explain what you can expect during a day out on the water aboard the "Tide & Time" tuna charter boat.

Once you and your group are relaxed onboard and the captain has explained the safety procedures, the PEI tuna fishing charter boat will head out of the harbor and eventually bait the hooks and cast fishing lines into the waters off PEI.

Live bait is kept onboard in "live well tanks" for you to use as this seems to be what the tuna love most. The bait fish is caught on our journey to the tuna fishing grounds so it is as fresh as it can be. You are welcome to join in the fun of catching the bait fish. This is quite often, as much fun as catching tuna. You never know what type of fish you will pull on board. Cod, trout, bass, salmon, and other types of fish have typically been caught while trying to catch the bait fish for the tuna.

Heading out in to deeper waters now, where the tuna are often located, you should keep a sharp eye out for the tuna jumping out of the water. Looking back you can still see the coast, so while you are in deeper waters, you are not miles from land.

The tuna can bite at any time, so the captain likes everyone to be on their toes and always be aware of where you are on the boat so that everyone doesn't get in each other's way. Thinking in terms of safety, makes for a better overall experience when tuna fishing.

Then first thing you know it, the reel is screaming as the line starts peeling off as the tuna takes the bate. The speed at which the tuna travels is hard to believe, often at speeds of 50 km/hr or more.
